Look at these stock pots, which one should I get?

Hi! Eventually, I want to brew all grain recipes, and as some of you know I threw my ceramic coated kettle on the ground and chipped it... now the chips are rusting (guess it wasn't aluminum)

is 8 gallons big enough for a 5 gallon all grain batch? is there a place to buy cheaper ones?

I would say the absolute smallest you want to get is 8 gallons (32 quarts). Your best bet to find a inexpensive pot that will work is with a turkey fryer . . . that is if ya dont already have one.

I wouldn't pay those prices without a complete description given. You can by a complete cajun cooker complete with a large aluminum or even stainless pot for the same prices elsewhere. As far as a pot by itself goes, the best deal I've come across lately is this one.

Check out Walmart where they have the turkey fryers. I found a 30qt stainless for $30. I realize 30qt would really be cutting it close, but at that price, I had to buy it.

Wow, $95.29 for a 40 quart aluminum pot is pricey - even if you do get a basket with it! Check a local restaurant supply. That's what I did and I got a thick walled (8 mm) 40 qt. (10 gal.) aluminum for $43.49. I've had it for just over a year now and it has held up like a champ!

I wouldn't buy any of those.
I picked up a really good (thicker than those probably are) 50Qt (14 Gal) with bungs for a drain (drian included) and thermometer. Prices jumped up a little. They are up to 165.

Scroll down to the Itiallian kettles. They have a 9 gallon for 130 bucks. False bottoms for an extra $55.
