Force carbing with helium?

Ever heard of it / tried it? What would it be like???

He2 is way less soluble in liquid, so for a given temp and pressure so you would get almost no bubbling, head or 'bite'.

It is also very expensive.

Well, it would not be carbonating then....more like force heliuming.

It would be like...not carbonating at all. You'll just have flat, expensive beer. But if you open the keg and huff it, you can sing annoying Christmas songs.

Bummer...

You could always crank the pressure up to 8 or 10 atmospheres (100-150psi) with an N2/H2 blend and 'bend' the crap out of your brew.

It'll only cost you $50 for the gas to do it.

No single gas has a lower solubility than does helium.

Sorry, but your plans for Donald Duck Stout just won't work.

I'd check on the PSI your corny keg can take before going to 150 psi... but it would be interesting if you could get it to work

The hardest part would be getting all those balloons in your car.

I think it would be a great idea for a lite beer!!!!................get it?? ..."a lite beer"

Just for grins, I looked up some of helium's properties. It's barely soluble in water. .86 mL per 100 mL at room temperature, as opposed to carbon dioxide's 88 mL per 100 mL. CO2 is 10,000% more water soluble.

If you do try it, be sure to put a brick or other weight on your kegs, so they don't float up and make black marks on your ceiling.
