Brewed a cream ale kit yesterday. I added 1 lb corn sugar at flame out
to boost the alcohol content.
I followed the recipe and pitched the liquid yeast @80 F right into the wort
at 7:30 pm last night. OG was 1.042.
The vial said give the yeast 5-15 hours to start
fermenting but also said to pitch between 70-75 F.

I checked the airlock this morning (13 hours later) and do not see any activity.
The airlock appears to be working properly.

Did I kill my yeast by pitching at too high a temp?
Should I be worried?
Should I pick up anothe bottle of liquid yeast and add it?
Would I use the same type of yeast or different type?
How to proceed?

Just give it some time, it's too early to worry. Check it tomorrow, we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Liquid yeast without a starter does take a while to get started. I did a Hefe once that took a bit over 48 hours to get going. Scared the heck out of me, but turned out to be a great beer.

Like said above, give it 3 days, and if no go, repitch. From now on, you may want to look into starters. I've been doing them for every brew now. Much quicker fermentations.

Ok. I won't panic. A few more questions though.

My LHBS said I wouldn't need a starter.
Would that have sped things up?

The recipe says ferment 7-9 days at 55-75 degrees.
Is that from the time I pitched or the time I start seeing activity?

When should I rack to the secondary carboy?

This board is invaluable.

Your OG was 1.042? Was that before the additional corn sugar? If not, that seems awfully low with a full lb of corn sugar in the mix as well.

Give er time...

Hmmmm... 20 hours and still nothing.....

The recipe says without adding the extra corn sugar the OG
should be 1.045.
Now I'm wondering why my reading is so low after adding the sugar?

Should I take another reading or let it be?

Let 'er be.
I fear it may be a slow fermantaition , you don't want to infect it
I, for one, believe in liq ysts. and starters and am ,with todays brew going, finally , to almost over-pitch. THERE - I missed my 2nd addition by ten mins. Back to brewing
