Little green bastards attacking my cones

I've encountered my first real pest problem. I have had about four of these little green worms on my cascade plant. They pull a cone next to a leaf, web them together, them sit between and munch away. It's hard to see because I have a lot of cones, and they're packed pretty closely. When I pull the leaf and cone apart, the worm drops off and hangs by a strand of webbing. Really not a huge problem, just annoying as they chew through a cone pretty quickly, and I assume (haven't given one a chance yet) move to the next. I'm close enough to harvest that I probably won't use any chemicals on them, just wondered if anyone knows what they are.

I don't know. I'm wondering if it's a similar bugger that was chewing on my leaves. Have you considered an organic (food safe) spray? There are some made out of oils and hot peppers that might work.

Next year you should buy some praying mantis eggs and hatch them in the hop garden. All purpose, o'natural bug control.

white oil would be the go to make 1 cup of cooking oil 1 tsp washing up liquid 1/2 cup water to us mix 40ml of concentrate to 1l of water spray those little f!@ckers and the plant about once a fortnight

Spoonta has it right. Dish soap and cooking oil "usually" helps. The was the recommendation from Colorado State U. Research PhD., Dr. Ron Godin, an organic and hop specialist.

We brewed with home grown hops 12 yers ago and we called it Aphid Ale as the aphids made it all the way to the bottle...my brew boy's processes have changed since then as well as we haven't brewed with them since.

I have these basturd worms on my centennial cones. I'm worried they will move to the cascades soon. Must find remedy...

They are probably cut worms. Use Dipel dust. Find it at a lawn and garden store that carries organic natural pesticides. I don't think you'd find it at HD or Lowes but I could be wrong.

Dipel dust looks like talcum powder or finely ground flour. It has Bacillus thuringiensis in it. You sprinkle it on the plants. The worms eat it and after a few hours they stop eating and die. It is safe for humans and you can use it right up until harvest.

I use it on my tomato plants to control various caterpillars and worms. It works great.

Nope, that's not it. They like to get right into the core of the cones and munch out from there. I'm pretty sure they're cabbage worms. They are the exact same color, head to tail, as the cones. I think that I've pretty much eliminated them from my mature plant, so I should be good to go to harvest!
