Bg12 burner conversion

I noticed that the b12 burners have 1/8" threading and would like to use the brewers hardware valve for 11" wc that is 1/4". I noticed some previous posts describing tapping to 1/4", but could I just use a 1/8" mpt to 1/4" for and screw the valve into that instead?
