Harvested yeast questions

I just finished my first beer an Irish red fir saint patties day. I'm trying to harvest the yeast but I am worried I may have contaminated it. After I separate it is there any way to see if it is contaminated or is pitching it the only way. I would hate to ruin a great batch of beer with it. Thanks and cheers!
 
I think the best way to see if it's still any good is to make a starter with it. That way you don't have to pitch potentially infected yeast into a whole batch!

I agree. Unless you are or know a micro biologist I think this is your only option. Why do you think it's contaminated?
