John Bull alternative?

a few months ago I picked up a couple cans (one hopped one unhopped) of John Bull dark malt extract and ended up making an excellent schwarzbier with it. I see that the John Bull brand has been discontinued. Should I despair of even recreating this excellent beer or does anyone know of a comparable alternative?

I've since made an ale with a couple cans of muntons dark and it doesn't seem nearly as dark a beer as what the john bull made.

Any advice is appreciated.

Do you like to steep some roasted grains and use light malt extract to make it?
You can reproduce or make something excellent with this method.

Use the Muntons and steep 4 ounces of Carafa III (a de-husked dark roast).
