I'm looking to brew a double black IPA this weekend and having never tried a commercial example of the style i put this recipe together based off what i think would make a great tasting beer.

Any thoughts on the recipe, also i put Chinook in for a bittering hop but I also have Columbus, Topaz, Galaxy, Summit and Simcoe on hand if they might make a better choice.

Thanks!

I like it. I don't do a double but have a house black IPA I like that uses Cascades, Centennial and Williamette. I don't use much WIlliamette in my brewing but I do like it in my black.
And, I love Chinook as a 60 minute addition.
Never used candi sugar either. Might have to give this one a try one day. Let me know how it turns out.

Thanks! I am really looking forward to trying this recipe as well. It will be my first batch above 8.5 % and my first time using candi sugar as well.

With a big beer like this any input on a mash schedule?

I've done mine at 152 for 70 minutes but this last time, I wanted something a bit more 'chewy' and went to 156 for 1 hour and think I like that better. A bit maltier. It depends on what you like. Or, try 154 and split it and you get somewhat the best of both worlds.

I'll try 156 I think. I want something with enough body and malt to keep me interested.

Brewed this on the weekend but i upped it to a 25L batch so i could split off 5L for an alternate dry hop. Hot my OG of 1.080 and my initial impressions were good. Its bubbling like mad now through the blow off tube.
