Any good brew pubs?:ban: Any really lousy beer places I should avoid?

Help me out!

Unfortunately Sacramento Brewing Company just went out of business. They made some great microbrews.

Rubicon Brewing Company downtown Sacramento
BJ's in Roseville
Hoppy Brewing Company in Sacramento
Sudwerks in Davis
Brew it Up downtown Sacramento - kind of a cool place that brews their own beer, but also allows people to brew beer on site and pick it up after it's been bottled.

As far as pubs there is something for everyone, but it depends on what type of atmosphere you're going for. Quiet and cozy, trendy, sports bar, etc.

+1 for 'Brew it up' or Hoppy Brewing. Neither one is exactly 'world class' [IMO] but pretty solid brews and some nice folks... Brew it up actually has a rather surprisingly wide selection of styles to try.

Another option might be The Shack, they don't brew their own but generally have a very wide selection of esoteric stuff in bottles and on tap. They have Duchesse De Bourgogne and Odonata 'water witch' on tap at the moment (amongst others).

Have fun!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm Thinking Hoppy's or the Shack. I'll let you know which one when I get back.

Cheers!

You are missing the best brew pub in Sac. River City Brewing has the best food and some really good beer. I recommed the Vienna to start with. The food there is top notch. It is located in the K Street Mall right before you go into Old Sacramento. The beer is on par with Hoppy Brewing, but the food is much better.

Lame update:

I ran out of time and patience and after a frustrating business day I ended up having a really expensive, really very poor meal at a chain restaurant (albeit a smaller chain). I know better, but I didn't have the oomph to drive more than a mile from my hotel.

Thanks for the recommendations, I will be sent back to SMF and I'll be sure to try again.

Sacramento/Roseville folks, I've been following a new brewery that's going to open up this Summer with a tasting room called "Roseville Brewing Company." Their brewhouse is off near Washington & Pleasant Grove (conveniently about 2 miles from my house) and they're aiming for a small, low-key tasting room and local distribution to start out. The brewer was a home brewer that got sick of corporate life and decided to give brewing a shot. I know I'll be in there whenever I have some free time just to root on a local newcomer.

A few top guys from the recently closed Sacramento Brewing Company are going to assist with the new place. I though it was opening at the fountains?! Either way, BJs is going to hate life. I'm so glad there's going to be a new place there, I hope RBC is successful.
