I see Austin Homebrew has some seasonal yeasts available. I'd like to use one. Thing is, I'd just like to brew a half batch for this. I'm thinking about an English Ale.

I usually use dry yeast, so I'm not sure about a Wyeast pack. Would I still need to make a starter? Would it overwhelm a half batch?

What do you think?

Thanks.

I assume you would be a brewing 2.5-3 gal batch. If you have a OG anywhere between 1.05-1.06, you wouldn't need a starter as long as it's an Activator pack. That gravity range requires 90-105 billion yeast cells and an Activator pack has 100 billion. At that range wouldn't worry about under or over pitching. I'd shoot for a 1.055 OG for a 2.5 gal batch.
