Hi all.
I froze my beer again...
Could someone suggest a good temp controller I could use with my generator? I don't want to spend too much, but if I have to...

Thanks,
Zolt

The Ranco ETC-111000 ETC-111-000 Electronic Temperature controller is about as cheap as as they get and it can be wired for 110 or 240 volts. About $50 USD.

Actually, I found this on eBay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320832517422&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
It is indeed an STC 1000. It looks promissing since it even has a compressor delay. for just over $25 to my door, I think I will go with that one.
...but I also found one even less expensive : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170818176933&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123 Anybody knows enough to tell me if this would be good enough?
Thanks!

[edit]
I actually found a post about the difference between both devices, and they look the same. I am just wondering if the WH7016C has the same compressor delya as the STC 1000.
In cas someone is interested, the post is here : https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/stc-1000-vs-dwh7016h-309619/

i dont like the looks of the probe on the cheaper one.... my stc probe sits in water to avoid freezing the beer... i control liquid temp... not ambient temp

Hi Astronomical.
I believe the probe is fine to be immersed in a liquid.
What I plan on doing is to take one of the ice pack with blue gel and put the probe in. It will not freeze, it will not (or should not) degrade and it will help not take the ambiant temperature like you said.

Anybody has experience with the DWH7016H units and immersing the probe?
