McB! Well done! George Jones is one of those take em or leave em country music players. Me, personally. I like his music quite a lot!

Listening to his songs I did detect a banjo. I think I will ever be, at the envy of a banjo playing two or three. Something like that. Dueling banjos will always hold a special place in my heart. Those wonderful people who play an original art.

I went for a video best boasted. But there are many of them man and I'm probably toasted. But got to tell you son. There really is not just one. Could go for the fall back cure, It's played in the movie Deliverance for sure.

Going to get a bit crazy now. Looking for the right one, there isn't just one; theres tons. Heres one done from a dad's young sons.

Any chance this hasn't been posted here? I love this cover by Cash. He really seems to be looking back on his life here with some regret or guilt or something.

I must say I actually like Cash's version of Hurt far more than the Trent Reznor version. I do think that his changing the lyric from crown of sh*t to crown of thorns. Makes it more profound and puts all new meaning to the rest of the song in my opinion. I also like how the whole thing is slowed down. Now of course I think I may have to pull up a Cash playlist.

Speeking of Cash, here's one I think I posted some time ago that bares repeating at my age...

Damn, old time country was so good. I'll pick up random vinyl compilations of country from back in the 50s and 60s and there is always great stuff I've never even heard of.

I like Hank Snow. and when I'm feeling angry at all the "cross-over", I play a lot of Hank III.:rockin:

no joke! what gets me is all you gotta do is put on a cowboy hat and/or boots and it's instantly "country".

Yep. There is good stuff like Justin Townes Earle, Whiskeytown/Some Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch, yada yada yada, but radio country is just garbage.

Awesome selection my man. Not country, or country and western... more American roots music or folk. Justin Townes Earle.... good choice. I have always enjoyed his fathers music and really like this young man. Good music.

My favorite version of my favorite Justin Townes Earle song.

Great performance - Justin Townes Earle... Harlem River Blues.

A great version of Steve Earle's "Goodbye". The albumn Wrecking Ball is an American classic. Listen to the beginning. You hear Steve counting the song off. What a great songwriter... and Emmylou is arguably the greatest country singer of all time.

Rodney Crowell - Sex and Gasoline.

A truely great American songwriter. Great song. The albumn is wonderful if you haven't heard it.

There have been 2 albumns that have come out since I graduated high school in 83 that I've just absolutely played the sheit out of. Springsteen's Devils and Dust and this one. Well... I can't really count Blood on the Tracks... I discovered it late I suppose.

A bonus. Paul Carrack sings a Bruce Springsteen song. "If I Sould Fall Behind".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWOkJ2RUDXw

A super-bonus... neither country or American, but the best live version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" I've ever heard.... Paul Carrack again. A great singer.

In case you were wondering who Paul Carrack was. Gary LeVox should study this guy. Technique has nothing on soul.

Is Paul Carrack country?... I believe the Isaacs thing so

no joke! what gets me is all you gotta do is put on a cowboy hat and/or boots and it's instantly "country".

Bingo. It's a formula really. It's like the producers have a tin can filled with paper containing formulas for the best selling 5 or 6 country music songs ever written. Someone reaches in and pulls a formula out and BAMMM... the next "country" hit.

They're all starting to sound like 80's metal ballads.... or anthems of some sort. Country music has gone by the way of corporate America. Whaterver makes the CEO the biggest end of year bonus check.

I'm Dan

And the music you posted isn't country, but sure glad you did! I love that song!

Hey Dan....

What the hel!l IS country music? Is there such a thing these days?

No is the answer.

Let's enjoy anything American today where music is concerned. Of course... the Who isn't country, or American... but Dammmmmit they're good.

.... I've edited. That sounded harsh. Didn't mean for it to. Just wanted to say Hello to Dan really. so... Hello Dan.
