Yesterday, on my way to lunch, my boss stopped me, saying "Hey, need to talk to you a minute. Walked in his office and there sat an HR guy. Crap.

Told I was let go "solely due to business conditions". yada yada. "Nothing personal" yada yada. "Let me have your phone." I was then escorted out. Couldn't even get my kids pictures off my desk. Mr. HR told me I'd have to come back after hours to clean out my desk. Going back today at 5:30 to get my stuff.

So, I've spent today browsing for a job and watching the clock.

(end of rant)

So, if anyone knows of a B2B technical sales lead, I would greatly appreciate a shout.

Good luck. I got laid off in April and can't even seem to get a phone call from anywhere I've applied. I do have an interview for a job in my line of work, I just have to borrow some gas money to get there. It's about 60 miles away, but I have friends in the area and am willing to relocate for the right job. My old job is about halfway there, so I suppose if I do move and get called back, I could still take my old job back.

That sucks man.Good luck with the job hunt and look on the bright side. You don't have to work for heartless a**holes anymore.

There is no bright side to getting laid off. Now he gets to look forward to a ton more stress and waiting before working for a new set of heartless a**holes. Hopefully that transition happens sooner than later and maybe if he's lucky he'll make more money working for the new heartless a**holes.

Bullsh!t. Maybe he will find a job he really enjoys with people that appreciate him. Or it pays more...either way, there could always be a bright side. I know numerous people that have been laid off and followed their dreams instead of working for the same crap they thought they "needed" to do.

Do you think the majority of society falls into the illustrious category? Yes or No

No. Most people feel they need to get another crummy job to survive, instead of going with their passion. I'd say they may be more stable, they may have more money, but they won't be as happy.

Losing a job can be an eye-opener and the chance to seek better things. It doesn't have to be a total downer. It's a matter of perspective.

I dunno why they have to pull that crap with the "escort out" That's just bullcrap! I'm sorry you had to endure it.:(

That happened to me once. It didn't matter, I went out, got drunk, and took my barmaid with me to the hotel I knew the jerk was staying at. Between the barmaid and myself we made a total jackass out of me in front of my ex employers and former workmates. Lots of verbal abuse and screaming from my barmaid friend....Totally fooking worth it! :D

I agree that it can be an eye opener. And best of luck to anyone who can make their dreams come true. Hopefully someday I can do it! I am just saying, that the reality is not as pretty as that. Most people don't get laid off, then go start a brewery and live their days happy and drunk... like I said, hopefully someday I can do it! ;)

I understand. Me too! (that's my plan in a few years, actually, or the moment I get laid off :D)

hahahaaa!!! It's good to see you LGI, were you missing or something?

Wait...I can't really see you...where'd you go???

Sorry to hear about that Boodle. I'm lucky the school corp that I work for has never fired a teacher for monetary reasons. Hopefully that holds up! I'm pulling for you in the only way I know how... I'll hoist a pint! :mug:

Thanks all. I appreciate all the responses.

I'm keeping a chin up, hoping to turn a negative into a positive. We'll be OK for a few months if I can't find work right away. Kinda saw this coming with layoffs that started in January. Been saving all we could since then so we have a decent emergency fund built up.

Still sux. No severance, no nothing. Just a kick out the door. For a senior level sales position, you'd think a little more civility would be in order.

Again, thanks everyone.

Very sorry to hear that Boodle. Hope you find something some where your contributions are a little more appreciated. Good thing you had the wisdom to stash your pennies when things started to go south. As mentioned earlier, I know quite a few people who had been let go and have found other careers and are so much happier.

My wife just found a new job. It's good for her since her old one has been driving her nuts almost since she started there. Guess I'm just trying to say that she never thought she'd be able to find a decent job but yet she has. You'll find another job too. Good luck in your search.

I just saw this morning that unemployment has dropped to 9.7%. So you aren't alone, 216k other Americans lost their jobs in August. Sorry man, that sucks to the limit.

Yeah, it's great to follow your dreams. Four years into my own business and one sale in the last three months.

I got laid off in the mail during our shutdown week.
I think I would rather have gotten it a half hour before the end of shift on a Friday like everyone else did.
At least that way I could've stopped working, and said bye to everyone.
Oh well, I liked my job and the company I worked for MUCH better than my previous employers, so I'll go back if called back unless I have a much better job when/if that callback happens. Besides, summer's over, working in a machine shop sucks in July/August.
Hopefully soon we'll all be working, getting a little overtime, and brewing like madmen in our time off.

:mug:

I came back from Christmas with the folks once to find I wasn't on the schedule at my job anymore.

At another job, they scheduled a meeting 2 months in advance and made sure everyone was going to be there. When we got there they passed out final paychecks and gave us 10 minutes to get off the property. The next morning we went by and the building was empty.

There seems to be a rule in business that if you are going to sever ties with an employee, you have to do it in the most s**tty way possible.

Follow your dream, man. Apply for brewery jobs, start your own business, become a porn star. Whatever you've wanted to try, give it a shot!

I found out what company my interview was going to be for.
I'm not even going to interview with them. I have friends that work and/or worked there, and they say the place is a nightmare. They threatened to fire my buddy for going to take a leak for F's sake. So I'll just send a thanks but no thanks email to the guy I had talked to at staffing place.
At least I didn't have to waste the gas and drive time.
