That surprises me that you think I forced her to put up with crap. The place puts it in their menu exactly what type of glass each type of brew comes in. She failed to do her job as advertised by the menu. I suppose that you would also say that I would be wrong to ask the Applebee's manager to take his improperly hung flag down or to fix his display so that in was proper and in accordance with the United States Flag Code? He refused, by the way, so I took it down and rehung it for him. He wasn't impressed, and I still don't give a crap. Server actually helped me with that one and got a big tip, but I called Kansas City with a complaint on the manager. Their corportate headquarters didn't like his actions much. Now "crap" from a customer would be the guy that takes notes on his server and then leaves an actual tip written on a napkin on what they can do to improve their service.

No, I am not an officer. I have been enlisted for the last 8 yrs. Why would you infer that I am an officer? Is it because I saw something that was not being done right and fixed it? Is that not a good thing? Are you not supposed to expect that your meal and drinks are to be prepared as advertised and requested as a blue collar enlisted member? You're right, I am not entitled to have anything the way that I want it because I did not go to college before I joined the military. I will continue to eat at high class establishments such as the Waffle Shoppe (former Waffle Houses) because that is where society says that I should be. Atleast I will get my soda poured into the red plastic cup and water in the clear one every time without a doubt. Crazy thing is, the service at places like that is almost always better than those corporate chain restaurants.
 
You have to have a little compassion for people working at these stores - I mean seriously they are barely making a livable wage, probably no benefits and they probably work for a manager on a serious ego trip. There's no commission system setup for them to make more money if they help you find what your looking for - so why would they give a sh** - I wouldn't.

I walked across the street to the Brixx pizza place where my wife and kid were waiting and sat down for our lunch before our movie. I like this place, it has good pizza and usually has some good brews. Until today I have always had GREAT service, pretty much the best pizza place service ever. I ordered a Hopslam. My wife thinks that she likes beer too and ordered one too.

Waitress: Here are your drinks! I really like the Hopslam! I hope you enjoy it too!
Me: Yes, I know I will, but can you bring me a regular glass. I do not want a frosted glass. My wife would also like a regular glass.
Waitress: Oh, I guess it is a bit cold outside today huh...giggle giggle
ME: Yeah that's it (avoiding confrontation)
Waitress returning with plain glasses: Here, these are off the shelf, they aren't hot out of the washer, but they are clean.
ME (I've had enough): Now why in the F*** would I want a hot beer glass? Are you stupid?
W: Well, it's cold outside, of course!
ME: I did not want the frosted glass because I enjoy beer. I like to taste beer. It tastes good. When beer is cold, you cannot thouroughly enjoy all that it has to offer. I will now let my Hopslam sit here on the table for the next 20 minutes because it has F*****g ice on the outside of the bottle. You know what? Let me have something off the tap while I am waiting for this to warm up a bit.
W: Sir, you can only have one beer on your table at a time.
ME: You have got to be kidding me....(my voice has now gotten a bit louder) I want to enjoy my beer the way that I enjoy it and that involves actually tasting it.
W: I think it tastes pretty good cold.
Me: (after literally laughing in her face and still chuckling as I make this suggestion) Can I place this bottle of Hopslam on the empty table next to ours and wait for it to warm up a bit? I would really like to drink this beer today.
W: (after talking to manager) that is fine, sir. Does your wife want to put hers over there too?
SWMBO: I will just drink it.



2 Minutes later....SWMBO doesn't like her Hopslam, so I tell her to order an Angry Orchard since I know she will like it. We move her Hopslam to the empty table...
Waitress: Don't Like the Hopslam? I don't care for it much either, that is why I drink beer so cold. (being just as big a smart a as I am)
ME: At least you have a sense of humor. I appreciate that.

The manager is a beer snob and comes over and talks beer with me for a few minutes and he was a bit of a yapper. I like to converse with people who enjoy the same things that I do.
I got our check and the waitress didn't charge me for either hopslam, left her number and a smiley face on the check. SWMBO was pissed! I thought it was funny.

Because you were being a dick and acting as if the server and ticket girl were beneath you.

When told of a company policy you shot the messenger and gave her crap about a something that she had absolutely no control over. You then assumed that she was flirting with you with her "whorish smile" and treated her with disdain. She doesn't get paid enough to put up with that ****. And you were just an absolute azz in the pizza place.

Actually I was being unfair to most of the officers that I know...

Lighten up, dude.

Are you kidding me? You rearranged the store's display so it was in accordance with a code that is only advisable not enforceable? Seriously, lighten the hell up.
 
Yeah creamy.........I am afraid that, as reasonable as you are, this is not reasonable.

Someone who is young and inexperienced may have no idea what a flip top is. Pitcher may not be a bad place to start.

Someone who is older and working there (where CANDY in huge movie theatre boxes seem to be the focal point......) is probably retired or has been misplaced by the economy OR is mentally challenged, so YES, your expectations are too high.

My solution for that place and the MALL (if dear god I HAVE to enter for some horrible reason)

I know EXACTLY what they have.
I know EXACTLY where it is.
I know EXACTLY what it costs.

I HOPE to go there when all of the retards who frequent the place are still in bed, or are out drinking Miller Ultra to LOUD music.

I get in, I get out, I am polite, and I have LOW expectations of the gum chewing kid who rings me up.

Sheesh, I guess I will keep my mouth shut when something is wrong. People are entitled to suck at their jobs without reprocussion. I was unaware that correcting things is not allowed. As a movie ticket agent you are paid to sell a ticket, not talk about your boyfriend. I only told her that I didn't care about the boyfriend and I just wanted to watch a movie with my family. As for the waitress, she must have enjoyed my actions since she gave me her number on my check.

In the future I will just waste my time hearing about a ticket agent's old boyfriend, I won't enjoy my food and beverages they way thati ordered them, and I will allow a restaurant in a military town to disgrace the flag by making an improper display.

BTW, while the US Flag Code is not enforceable by the government, the corporate headquarters of Applebee's agreed with me. The next time I went to that place, not only was the flag still hung the way that myself and the server hung it, there were more throughout the restaurant and every single one was hung properly. So if I have to be an a55 to fix something, then I have no problem doing so.

Ive run corporate restaurants for more than 10 yrs and fyi when you call corporate 9 times outta 10 they will side with the guest no matter how much of a a$$ they were

when I was in high school and I work at the mall if anybody talk to me the way to you admitted to talking to those people I would have had no problem telling you what to do with yourself. I did it to several people who talked to me like that.
and just so you do not get the same attitude of how dare we think that you werent within your rights on some of those issues, it's not what you did it's how you did it. a flag is nothing but cloth. if you want people to respect you you gotta respect them too

Sir, a flag is more than cloth. That is an argument for another thread. I would have no problem with you standing up for yourself, either. I would actually prefer that you stand up for yourself, and then retrieve the food and beverage that you are being paid to do .

No a flag is just that cloth. Its the people behind the flag that make it what it is. And portraying yourself as an always right ****** does not help the image of said flag especially because you swore to defend not the flag but the ideals that it stands for and the people that stand for it.

if I had to stand up for myself like that , there is a little sign that says I have the right to refuse service. guess what, you are not getting any food or any other service. you're being told to leave if you refuse to leave and continue to be an ass you will be escorted out by the police
and last time I checked a flag was cloth, I've never seen one that could speak ,breathe or grow, etc.
 
Back on topic.

I really do feel bad for the baggers at grocery stores and I go buy maybe a bag of stuff and they still have to ask if I want carry out service. I know its their job but it really should have a discretionary cluase of whom you ask.

Or, if they didnt, maybe you are expecting me to tell you that it came to me in a dream? Stop wasting my time and answer my frigging question... yes or no.

4) "Me?" Um... Now I'm not even sure if I meant to ask you. Dont confuse customers, its mean.

And my personal favorite, number 5). I'm really not sure why I hate this so much, but last time it happened I lost vision for a full 5 seconds and just saw flames. I was jolted out of catatonia by a loud yelp from my wife... apparently I was squeezing down on her hand like a vice grip... Here it is...

"You mean like a pitcher?"

I just took a deep breath so I could get this out. If I meant a pitcher, why in the name of all things pink and available for a willing boinking wouldnt I have asked for a pitcher? Is a glass bottle a difficult concept? Was my request, a glass bottle with a flip-top, so unreasonable and silly that you thought surely I must mean something non-ridiculous like a pitcher? I'm being flooded with a wave of personal questions and I don't like the answers to any of them. You are implying things about me that are making me rather upset.

Again, I know it sounds like a first-world problem, but I cant fathom why people do this. It happens to me all the time, I ask for adhesive clips in a stationary store and I get "you mean hooks?"... I ask for cheesecloth at a fabric store "you mean batting?"

I really really try to remain polite in these cases. I close my eyes, count to five, and just repeat myself. "no... actually I meant a glass flip-top bottle." And then I offer a little unnecessary reasoning "for putting a liquid beverage in." I then never go to that store again.

I'm not even talking just store associates, who have a hard job I know. I asked a buddy of mine "how was your gig?"... silence... "didnt you have a gig on tuesday, bro?"

he answered.... "Me?"

I stopped talking to him and checked his facebook page. His gig on tuesday went well apparently.

I am not going to read through all the replies. I work in retail and can say that in my store that has over 100,000 items it is impossible for me to know all of them. Further you are asking for an item that has limited applications. I know what it is but a teenager who has no knowledge for homebrewing might not. Give it a break and shop where it is more likely that they: 1) carry the product. and 2) know it's use.

And quit bitching!!!!!
 
You are entitled to your opinion. That is one of the many different things that the flag stands for. My view of old glory may be different than yours, but should you disrespect it? Should I give up my First Ammendment rights to allow yours? This convo is going to quickly turn into a political rant, which belongs in a different location.

We'll just agree that you guys think I'm an a55, and that I want things the way that I want them. And I have no problem being one to get those things. Especially when I am paying for them.

I've wondered this, what is proper grocery store bagger tipping ettiquite? Around here, baggers do not get paid by the store, just by tips. Says so on their nametags. Do I need to tip you for bagging my milk? It only cost me 4 bucks and I carried it out, but you should get something right? I don't want to tip a quarter, but wouldn't a dollar be a bit much? Even if I buy $100 in groceries, I will only tip about $3. Its about 7 minutes of work to put my groceries in a bag and help me load them up into the car. I've seen some people give a $10, some nothing. I have a problem giving a bagger that much cash for 7 minutes of work, but is it offensive to get just a buck or two? I, myself, would find it offensive to recieve change as a tip, but thats just me and I'm an a55.
 
When I dine out and receive horrible service, I say nothing. I simply leave zero tip and in some cases, never return to the establishment.

I've been dining out 2-3 times a week for many years and only stuck a waitress 2 times with 0 tip. Normally give 20% as long as my drink stays filled. Short shorts and cleavage typically yield an additional 5%.

Another reason why you should be nice (especially in food service) is because these folks are handling your food. It is absolutely true that folks spit in drinks and rub your food in their crotch and a$$ when people like you come around.

Be nice, life's too short to be angry all the time.

Tip? I have never tipped a bagger. The again, I shop at bargain stores who usually have no baggers.

I was just at Wal Mart grabbing some bread and milk on the way home. The cashier never said one word to me. She just rang up my order and stood there while I paid. They seem to think that just because the total price is displayed on the screen where I can see it, this absolves them of all necessity to speak. If you don't like customers, don't work in a customer service job.

Usually Harris Teeter (I assume that is what you meant by harry peter) Lowe's foods, and the Commissaries. I know that the commissaries aren't allowed to pay them. The Harris Teeter I go to doesn't pay them either. I've never paid attention at piggly wiggly, do they even have baggers? I try to avoid Wally World for groceries.

Harris Teeter?! I never knew that. My ignorance has cause me to feel like an a-hole once again.

Round here we have nickname for Piggly wiggly but its not HBT appropriate.

The way I see it, there are two ways to handle the situation with the flag.

One is to politely tell the manager that the flag is being improperly displayed according to US Flag Code, and follow up with a letter and/or phone call to the local management and corporate office pointing out that, especially in a military town, it would be proper of them to educate themselves on proper flag etiquette.

The other is what you did.

One of these is the right way to handle it. And the other is what you did.

And thus ends my pummeling of the deceased equine.

Whenever wed go out to dinner even as a family, 15-20 of us, my grandfather would only leave a $5 tip regardless of service. He's the nicest person I ever knew but if you went behind his back to leave more and he caught you there was hell to pay and a 45 min lecture about its the companies job to pay their employees not yours


Also I don't get coffee shop tip jars for someone pouring over priced coffee into a cup or pushing some buttons. Unless its the java divas coffee truck parked at the gas station around the corner. The girls uniform is underwear ;)

In Europe the price is built into the food that you purchase. From my understanding, they pay their waitresses better but you pay a little more on the menu.

Pay in the menu price or in the form of tip.. Comes out the same.

Not sure how we become a tipping nation. Curious now. Will have to do some Googling.

Also I don't get coffee shop tip jars for someone pouring over priced coffee into a cup or pushing some buttons. Unless its the java divas coffee truck parked at the gas station around the corner. The girls uniform is underwear ;)

Leaving a $5 tip is not "sticking it to the man". It's actually sticking it to someone who makes like $2 an hour (or whatever they make).

Its part of our culture and a few folks leaving $5 tip at a 20 person table is not going to teach anyone a lesson.

Just an excuse to be cheap IMO.

He wasn't trying to stick it to anybody just his way of doing things. He thought it was generous to leave $5.
