The Specs in Corpus Christi has the same prob. "Beer specialist" is an idiot. (Last I was there anyway). And how the hell does that logic work? Your only getting paid x amount so that means you dont have to do your job properly???

Yeah but it's kind of tough to fault someone when they're being paid $8-12/hr and can't even afford to drink the beer they're selling. Not to mention the thousands of craft beer labels showing up. I haven't heard of a lot of them and I'm on top of this sh**!

That's my rational side; they annoy the hell out of me too :cross:

I have different expectations of different bottle shops. A small one nearby is all beer, no wine to be found, and definitely gives off the vibe that you can ask questions and get decent answers. Since the owner works there full time, I suspect much of the beer is beer he sought out and at least knows a little something about. What I can gather, he turned a passion into a business that appears to be somewhat stable for him.

The bottle shop that is massive and does sell wine and beer is one where I hope for half decent answers. So far, I've not been mislead. I often ask "have you had it" and I expect an honest response. Not having tried the beer in no way dictates whether I will buy it. I feel as though the guys and gal there are quite knowledgable.

Then there is Total Wine which I do not really expect anything from. I've seen some employees really hand out a bunch of info on wine, but the beer falls to the wayside it seems. Most I ask is if they have something and if not, where I can get it (another total wine) or when. I rarely, if ever, ask questions. The last time I did the guy told me he doesn't drink at all and can't really help me. And no, I don't think you need to drink to work at Total Wine.

Oh and I'm drinking coke. 3 hours of sleep has resulted in me dragging ass today. It doesn't help that I am delivered the most obscure instructions on what to do at work. It's like a ****ing puzzle sometimes.

Ebner Brewing Company. Our website, ebnerbrewing.com is up and getting finished but you can poke around if you are bored. We would be glad to have you! Let me know before you come in if we are open when you come out and I will make sure you get a full tour and some "samples" :mug:

Having quickly perused your site, I have a quick question. I see you like the majority of breweries (but surprisingly, not all) ask for the birthdate (or a simple are you older than 21 question.) Is that mandated by state/federal law, your insurance company or is it just something you felt you ought to do? Kudos to you for at least writing that to a cookie so I don't get asked every time I go to the site :)

I agree. If you don't care at $10/hr, chances are you're not going to care at $20/hr. It's more of an attitude/personality problem than it is a $/hr problem. No matter how much you get paid, you should try to be the best you can at the job you have. I don't expect the beer specialist at a store to know every beer out there, but I do expect them to know what they do carry, at least a general knowledge of the different beer styles that they carry, and the fact that 1 1/2 years is way too long for an IPA to sit on the shelf and expect people to buy it. I think that's reasonable. If you're only experience with beer is the fact that you and your buddies put away a couple 30 packs of BMC on Friday nights, you are not suited for a job in the beer department. Some of the blame also goes to the stores for not having higher hiring standards and providing assistance with the employees learning about beer and holding them accountable if they don't.
Rant over, time for a beer. ;)

Are you SOX compliant? :D

Just kidding. Good luck!

Afternoon Coff.

I also expect little from Total Wine for craft beer aside from their selection. I have even noticed that with the warehouse fluorescent lighting and single bottle selection that often the hoppier beers have been lightstruck to an extent. Kinda sad really.

I asked for them to order me a 1/4 keg of FBS this fall and they told me they didnt think they were making it this year though got it in a couple weeks later and failed to notify me (i actually had to call to inquire if it was arriving). They were also unable to find me a 1/6 of DFH punkin' ale this year.

Water until I get home, then its onto whatever I have left in the fridge/on tap

Don't really expect much from the guys at my local beer stores (2). They always recommend the latest "fad" in beers - things like Stone Enjoy By, BCBS, and other expensive stuff that rolls-in. The only question I really ask them is if they have a particular beer I am looking for and if they have empty boxes so I can store empties in. :D

Some of the things at my local shops annoy me. The other day I went in to purchase some brews. I was going to pick-up 12-pack of All Day IPAs in cans and looked at the date - August 28, 2013. I asked the guy if he had a newer box of beers and he said no. I told him to look at the date and he simply repeated it out loud. I guess someone will end up buying it. But that sort of stuff annoys me.

Thank you! We just felt that it was the responsible thing to do.

Damn you Remmy...got me thinking about going out tonight for some Draft beers at the only place nearby that has anything worth going for. I need (another) part time job.

A sample of my belgian brown. Never had this type of beer before but it has the taste of a belgian that I expected but the nuttiness of a brown. It's good.
I am kicking myself for forgetting irish moss though. It's cloudy as ****.
Not sure the smell I get though is right. Giving it 3 weeks in primary to see what happens. If it looks like it's going to clear more, I'll let it sit there for a bit.

Edit: I googled and I'm a jackass, I've totally had a belgian brown beer before, numerous times. Clearly I never paid enough attention.

Having coffee while shopping for brewhouses... We decided a 3bbl brewery with 6bbl fermenters and brites isn't gonna cut it. Found a deal on a complete, turnkey 7bbl brewhouse with a bunch of15bbl fermenters and brites and even a couple 40bbl fermenters that would put us under budget. We go for funding today so fingers crossed!!

Good luck. Hope it works out for you.

Couldn't resist the urge. Got home from the office and dinner wasn't ready. So, you know. I got that "I need a beer right now" feeling. And that was that.

So much for that no beer today haha
Opened a wine bottle of apfelwein that I kegged and bottled some of last night and getting everything ready to brew a white ipa. Swmbo and her mom went to the movies, so might as well brew and drink. Giddyup! *second pour*
