Check the first post in the Apfelwein thread. The most successful recipe on this site is Apfelwein made with apple juice, corn sugar and Red Star Montrachet yeast.

Can't go wrong with Ed's original recipe, although some have tried. It's good, but not hard cider. More like an apple wine.

I made mine without the extra sugar, and might do that next time. Mine's a bit weak in flavor and weak in alcohol too. It's a good refreshing beverage and cheap and easy to make.
