It is 30*F here today. I am brewing an AG Hefe in the garage and using an electric space heater to help the MLT hold temperature.

The space heater is on the table with the MLT, about 2 feet from it. I have the space heater plugged into my 20A GFCI extension cord. I turn the MLT to keep it evenly warm on the outside.

So far (35 minutes), the MLT is holding a stead 52*F.

:rockin:

Are you using a cooler type MLT? I don't know that the space heater is needed - i live in a very cold climate, have brewed in the garage and haven't had a problem with it holding. But I'm sure it doesn't do any harm either.

It worked great. I even managed to gain part of a degree during the hour.

Also, I used it to warm up my propane tank and thaw a garden hose. The Hefe is cooling down, almost ready to pitch now.

:D

Not a bad idea, my 5 gallon igloo tends to loose temp when it is really cold.

I once used a heating pad underneath a 5 gallon cooler during mash, didn't do much but probably didn't hurt.
