Stupid question

Hello I am new to the wine making process and am almost ready to transfer my first kit wine to bottles. I have noticed on the side of the Carboy a bunch of white stuff that looks like the sediment on the bottom. I am just wondering if that is supposed to be there and it is normal. I thought all the sediment was supposed to fall to the bottom and not stick to the sides. I know i am new and this is probably a stupid questions. I am just trying to make sire i did not mess anything up.

It probably is sediment. When it rains, does the side of your house get wet? It is kind of the same thing, but with the glass. It is kind of like dust. Any of that make sense?
