I know they make plastic ones I'm just not sure about food grade ones or what something like that would cost. You can get an old metal one for $15 so with some kind of lining I think it could be done

I have seen on here links to stainless ones. Not as cheap as your $15 dollar one, but could be a thought.

The ones I've found are just old steel drums but I was thinking there has to be like a giant food grade trash bag or something you could just put in it and then seal up. Bam 55 gallons of beer

You'd have to put a t-shirt over them so that the light from that window doesn't skunk the beer.

I've been thinking about getting a septic tank installed in the back yard so I could lager 500g at a time year round.

Sorry, but I just can't resist.

There's too many smart-ass responses to choose from for this so here's a partial list:
  1. That'd make a pretty piss-poor beer.
  2. I bet the beer would taste like crap.
  3. That's not the best way to get that brett funk.
  4. Budweiser doesn't need the competition.

Anybody else want to chime in?

Food safe drum liners are relatively easy to find:

The question I have not yet been able to answer is whether or not a liner is 'beer safe' for multiple or extended use.

This guy http://www.bubbasbarrels.com/kettles/55-gallon-deluxe-brew-kettle is making brew kettles out of 55 gallon stainless drums. He also has non-modified drums. Not as cheap as plastic but you'll never have to worry about chemical leaching or contamination.

I couldn't help myself, I keep driving by these and thinking. Wow so much beer could be had...
