Portland, OR - The Oregon Brew Crew (OBC) homebrewing club is excited to host the 3rd annual Heart of Cascadia Homebrew Competition sponsored by Brew Brothers Homebrew Products and 3 Mugs Brewing Company. A BJCP (BJCP.org) sanctioned competition, the Heart of Cascadia is open to entries from all national and international home brewers.

This years competition will focus on Cascadian Dark Ales (CDAs) or “Black IPA’s” (21B in proposed 2014 BJCP) CDAs are dark, with a mild roast character, and dominant hop nose and flavor. CDAs are hop forward, and celebrate the uniqueness and glory of Northwest beer.
Registration link and more information is available on the OBC website, http://www.oregonbrewcrew.org/heart-of-cascadia. The entry fee is only $7 per beer.

All entries are due by May 21, 2015. Drop off locations include FH Steinbart in Portland, and 3 Mugs Brewing in Hillsboro. Check out the website for the full list of drop-off sites.

Judging will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015, and the winner will be announced that afternoon. Entries will be judged based on the proposed BJCP style guidelines. Guidelines and judging location are listed on the club website. This competition will follow all AHA/BJCP rules, available at http://www.bjcp.org/rules.php.

The winner will receive a personalized commemorative glass, and an invitation from 3 Mugs Brewing to brew their Cascadian Dark Ale commercially on their 3 barrel brew system.
