I didnt get to go to any of the major events I wanted to, but I did happen into one of my own. My Father runs a machine shop in Kensington, and has had a working relationship with Bill Barton for Philadelphia Brewing for some time, and the brewery is across the street from the brewery. Philadelphia Brewing is a new version of the old name. Bill was a co-owner of Yards before they parted ways about a year or two ago. Yards kept the name and the recipies, and Bill kept the brewery and the staff. For years my Dad has told me to come by the shop and he would take me over to meet Bill and see the joint. Last week I was on my way down 95 and decided to stop by. We walked into the brewery and into Bill's office, and he dropped everything to give us a tour of the place. Very cool! then he offered for us to sit down in the tap room for few.
If you haven't had any of Philly Brewing's beers, please do yourself a fovor and do so. THe Kenzinger is a perfect session beer, the New Bold IPA is very nice, and i got to have the Joe Porter, which was made with Peruvian Coffee beans grown locally. I found it to be similar to the flying fish expresso porter, but I thought it finished with a little more zip. Awesome!
One of the cool things about them is they distribute on their own, so you can usually get their beer for a few bucks cheaper the comperable beer because there is no markup from the Origlio's of the world.
This made a great Philly Beer week for me. :rockin:
