So I'm an idiot. I waited till a week before to get my girlfriend a birthday gift and I have no idea what to get her. Normally I wouldn't ask a stranger what to get someone but this gift does not have to be very specific to her. If there was something that I knew she needed or wanted I probably wouldn't need to ask for advice.

Shes turning 24. She doesn't really have any hobbies other than working or hanging out with me. I just got her a camera for christmas. I have already bought her an extremely comfortable robe, slippers and blanket. She makes all her own jewelry (not frequently enough to warrant buying her more supplies because she already has plenty)....

I'm looking for any ideas. Have you recently purchased a gift for someone that got a great response? Just throw out some thoughts to me please.

What kind of camera did you get her? Just a thought maybe a tripod or nice camera bag (assuming an SLR)

Maybe she needs a kegging system or a fermentation chamber :) someone has to sugest it. :mug:

Good luck!

I got her one of the Cannon PowerShot cameras and purchased a case when I bought it. A small collapsible tripod could be nice but I don't see her getting a ton of use out of it. However, it is added to the list of small things I will get her if I can't think of anything good enough.

how much do you want to spend?
a weekend away somewhere is always a big hit for me...and it can be weeks away - Last weekend, I said "Merry Christmas" at a beer festival and over-nighter...

Whats her style? What kind of music does she like? Movies? Food?

You'll score major points if you pick something out that you think she likes based on something she once told you. "I got you this cool tea pot and tea sampler because you told me last month that you have been really enjoying tea." Boom, you proved that you do listen to her and that you remembered something she said and you genuinely tried to get something that she might like.

Just tell us more about here and we can give you suggestions.

Hmm so far dick in a box is top of the list, but here is some info on her...

She is into funk, and some underground hiphop like RJD2. She enjoys cooking, makes delicious meals and loves to host for people. (maybe something for the kitchen...?) Her love for craft beer is ever expanding. Likes going out for fine dining. We hike but I bought her a good pair of boots already. She just bought a car 3 months ago so maybe she needs something for that...

Thanks for all the responses so far and keep 'em coming, at the very least you guys are getting my brain going!

I do realize it is right beside valentines day (plus my dad's B-day the same weekend, all different days) but because all these are so close together she doesn't care much for valentines. I have already placed my order with Proflowers.com I know that is kinda weak sauce but they deliver to their work and then all her co workers do the "ohh awwwee" and I get some free points.

Broads love being pampered, something with how they're wired. Schedule a massage and a Mani/Pedi for her. I've done this a couple of times for my wife and she loves it. You'll definitly score brownie points, but the key is actually schedule and pay for it. A gift cert is nice, but it'll mean so much more to her if you figure out an open spot in her schedule and make the appointment. Trust me she won't be disappointed.

This works every time..... in fact this is whay I am giving my wife for Valentines Day.

I would love to stay in the hundered dollar range but I would be willing to go up to around 200$.

So far the pampering idea isn't bad. She has a specific hairstylist that is the only person she will go to because she is in the process of reversing her hair color back to original without cutting it too far... blah blah etc etc... anywho, each appointment is in the 200$ range...

In my experience anything for the kitchen, laundry or vacuum cleaner is never a a good gift. Even if she likes to cook.

A massage is always good. See post #10

On the car note, carwash gift certificates/tokens to a drive thru or full service car wash, also take her car and you wash it for her birthday.

How about a tablet? There's a wal-mart promotion going on to get a $50 wal-mart giftcard with the Kindle Fire so it's really $150 now.

I got my wife a platinum dipped rose and she loved it. They take a real rose and do some voodoo to it, it looks really cool. Not something you see every day.

BOOM! Thats something she hasn't seen before, top of the list!

She has a smart phone and a mac book, I really don't see her needing a tablet (or most people for that matter). Also, I don't support Wally world which can suck at times because of those damn good prices! I mean I don't need a tablet but for 150$... I might need a tablet... hah

I forgot to mention that we both already have gift cards for massages. I got one 3 years ago for christmas that I haven't used, my borther got one that same year and re-gifted it to my girlfriend just this last year so until we use those up I don't think I need to get her another one.

This would be so much easier if you posted her picture. Preferably naked. Feel free to PM.

(disappointed in you guys)

Does she prefer gifts that are material or quality time-based gift (e.g. doing something)? This is really important in determining what to get her. If you're not sure which she prefers, ask her friends or family. If she likes doing something, you could look for concert tickets -- maybe with a nice dinner before. If she likes something material, it sounds like some good ideas were expressed above.

Casino trip.

Not sure of the prices for rooms, but at least dinner, buffet etc ... dancing or show (often there's a good selection of different shows and concerts depending on the one you go to), etc - and some time on the games.

Let her do all the actual gambling to keep the cost down.
Spend the money set aside for gambling and then go to dinner ... casinos sometimes have affordable prices on other things thinking they’ll get you on gambling.

Maybe you can find one with a Valentines special? ... like a room and dinner special?

Snoqualmie sounds interesting ... newer casino, dance club, cigar lounge, ethnic restaurants ...

Looks like there's quite a few ... here's a listing of just a few Seattle area casinos
http://gonw.about.com/od/attractionswa/tp/washington_casinos.htm

... I'd check out each of their actual websites.
If you plan it right, you can probably have a great time for $200.
Maybe you'll go home with more $ than you came with??

Bring the camera too.

My shun knives are the best gift I have ever been given. I couldn't care less about how my car looks.

I used to have a neighbor that was doing well in the stock market and had been for years. He was approaching their 25th anniversary when I noticed a new Mercedes in the driveway. A couple days later I asked him about it. He told me about the anniversary and that he had also bought her a new diamond ring. He figured if she didn't like the ring, she could drive herself back to the jewelry store and exchange it.

So, being the smart guy that I am, I took a cue from the guy. For Christmas, I bought the wife a pair of slippers and a vibrator. If she doesn't like the slippers, she can go eff herself. :cross::ban:

How about a Blade Scout CX RC helicopter?
http://bladehelis.blogspot.com/2011/09/blade-scout-cx.html
They're reasonably priced (I got one for $45) and a whole lot of fun. I've yet to see anybody turn down a chance to fly one & you can fly 'em indoors.
I bought one for my niece's birthday & had so much fun flying it I bought one for myself. I think we're all just kids at heart.
Regards, GF.

As someone else said, get her a Kindle Fire. I got one for my wife for her birthday last year and she loves it. She can read books, check email, facebook, watch movies on Netflix or Hulu, and play games from the apps store. I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but I've been married to my wife for 6 years and this has to be the most used gift I've ever gave her besides the DSLR Camera she wanted. She didn't know she wanted the kindle, but now she almost never uses her laptop to do anything.

EDIT: I missed your post where you shot that down...still, my wife has a laptop and a desktop for photo editing and she still uses her kindle more than either of them. Its a lot smaller than a laptop. My wife likes to read or watch movies in bed and check her email and facebook in the morning. Its not a necessity, but my wife loves it.

If she really likes to cook, then a really nice Chef knife makes any foodie drool. I think Maxam mentioned Shun. Giggity.

Get yourself a book or video on "Sensual Massage".

Forget the spa treatment!

Once you figure out how to give her the best massage at home, she will never want to go out for one again! And, as an added bonus, did I mention it was a SENSUAL Massage!

Win.

And.

WIN!

:cross:

I'm reading where she likes photography and has a Mac...maybe get her the gift of a class on how to work Photoshop like a pro or a weekend photography workshop. She makes jewlery, so maybe she just needs a nudge to really tap into her artistic side. She might really appreciate something like that.

Honestly, I looked at the platinum roses and didn't care for them, but many agree that I am only genetically female. :) My opinion probably doesn't count.

If I were to get the rose I was planning on building a small box to frame it for the wall in. The rose by itself she wouldn't like but if I turned it into a unique or "qwirky" wall decoration she would have.

All in all there were some great ideas on here and I thank you all! I settled on a case for the new phone she got last week, a bluetooth car speaker for the phone and her GPS (a christmas present), and organizing her friends to go out to a dueling piano bar this saturday which is something she loves to do but can never get everyone out on the same night.

If she just got a new car get some sheep skin seat covers. They are supper comfy and make the seat feel like it is heated on a cool or cold day.

Herpes, it's the gift that keeps on giving.....seriously disappointed that you guys didn't suggest this yet....

But for real, I think a tablet is gonna be you're best bet.

Since you mentioned you got her a camera, does she like to take pictures? Or maybe have a favorite pic of the two of you? Groupon is running a deal with Fabness.com where you can get any picture printed on a 16x20 canvas for $39, regular like $129...Probably wouldn't get to you in time for her birthday but at least you could say "it's in the mail...I didn't forget, honest!"

It looks really good too. My sister did that with a picture of my niece as a Christmas gift to my dad. It looked a lot better than we expected.
