Hi, my name is Kevin and i live in Seattle. I used to work in biotech, and am now in law school. I like surfing (yes its cold, but not with a wetsuit), I like studying and i like drinking beer alot. Maybe i'll enjoy brewing it too!

Welcome to the forum. There are quite a few of us Pac Northwester's on the forum, and Seattle definately rocks when it comes to microbreweries and good beer shops.

I'm new here too, just started my first attempt at brewing at home and all is well so far. I too live in the NW and go to OSU right now. I worked in a brewery 2 harvests ago and have slaved away in a vineyard for the last 7 or 8 years too so its good to be on this end of the brew cycle.

Welcome........I am new as well...brewed my first batch this last Sunday! For those of you that don't Know, La Conner, Wa is about 1hr NW of Seattle

Welcome to a great place, from another Pac NW member!
I'm an hour or so north of you in Arlington!

Welcome, good to see another local up here. I get all my stuff drom the Cellar Homebrew in Shoreline.

Looks like grappa involves distillation. I'm going to give you the politically correct answer. "It is a violation of federal law to make alcoholic beverages by the porcess of distillation." Not trying to sound like an axx, but trying to give you the legal answer.

I am not trying to get in a legal debate, but i can't help myself. I would have to double check myself, but i do believe production and intrastate distribution of distilled liquors are a matter for regulation by states, not by the federal government. It is obviously not a violation of the law per se as there are companies that distill liquors legally. I was asking whether anyone was familiar with the Washington State laws concerning permits; there must be a permitting system for legal production of distilled spirits, i just may not be able to obtain one.

Did you get the answers you were looking for on supply shops?
If you are on the eastside, there is Mountain Homebrew in Kirkland http://www.mountainhomebrew.com,
if you are in the University District, there is Bobs Homebrew http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4976/?view=beerfly,
if you are in the north end, there is Cellar Homebrew http://www.cellar-homebrew.com/store/catalog/,
and if you are in the south end, there is Larry's in Kent http://www.larrysbrewsupply.com/index.html

I mainly use Mountain and Larrys, but that is more for logistical reasons than anything else

We got NW folks coming out of the woodwork now. Got to see more of us around.

Welcome to the site and the obsession of brewing.
