fermented porter slight smell of soy sauce?

Wierd as it sounds, my wife mentioned it to me as we were bottling some porter this weekend and as she smelled the porter, she noticed it had a sort of "soy sauce" smell to it.

Wierd as that sounds, I did notice that too. I hate to think anything negative as this point, other than it being way too early to tell how it will eventually carb up and mature in the bottle for a few weeks.

anyone notice this smell before with a porter?
 
Soy sauce is mainly fermented soybeans. One of the flavors is caramel, which you'd get from the crystal that most porters use.
 
Tell us about your recipe and mash temps. What kind of yeast did you use?
I will have to get you that information when I get home. I am at work now.
it was a packaged liquid extract mix that I bought at my LHBS and I don't remember which yeast was in the mix.
