Hi,

I have made extract beer before and am about to make my first all-grain beer. I have built a counter flow wort chiller and my question is, should I run anything (sanitizer, water, some other liquid) through the copper pipe before my wort? It is a brand new copper coil. I have read about how you shouldn't use chlorine sanitizer in it which is fine, but I can't find anything else conclusive, especially regarding the FIRST time you use it. Any thoughts? Cheers

I use a fountain pump to run warm oxyclean, warm rinse, then cold rinse, then a Starsan solution for a while before brewing. Then on brew day during the last 15 minutes of the boil I run boiling wort through it (then add it back the the kettle). Works for me. One of the keys to keeping it clean is to rinse it right when you are done, don't wait.
