Would also help you maintain temps if you had to condition/ferment in a warmer environment.

meh.. you could prolly find a chest freezer on craigslist for about the same cheddar.. and that way you could put a few more carboys in there..

Fifty is a good deal. I think I made mine for around 80+ and I had some stuff laying around already. Like aekdbbop said a chest freezer would be nicer but your probably at a minimum of 150-175 to get that going with the temp controller. (I got one of these too).

That reminds me, I think I gotta start putting some of my stuff up for sale. My ferm chiller is capturing dust but figured I may see a need to fire it up if the chest freezer is full.
