I toasted some grains yesterday and I had them in the kitchen with a towel on them. This morning I was making a bowl of cereal and added a hand full of grains and it was really good.

what is weird about that? I have an uncle that only eats cracked barley for breakfast every morning. He soaks them overnight then heats it up in the morning. It's probably really good for you.
