Anyone still awake?

That CHP story got me thinking...

If you were murdered right now...would your story make national news? Would you want it to and would you be dissapointed if it didn't? What if you just die before your time by accident or from health issues? Shouldn't the nation know that you were short-changed?

What if you died in a fiery space shuttle explosion? Should everyone take the day off to mourn even though no one even knows who the hell you are and you volunteered for an inherently dangerous job?

Some people I love have died. I expect that more will in the future. I think I may even die someday.

Is every death not tragic and a loss? Are any more important than others?

Spidey did'nt make it. We will hold his service the forth monday of the month when the dumpster gets emptied:)

I heard a little about that on the radio. His bachelor party, right? He was trying to stop a car jacking in Vegas? Too sad, so very sad.

The truck was in valet and his brother in law was in the back of it. They were loading stuff up when some ******* jumped in and took off. Magdalena jumped in the back and told him to stop the vehicle that he was Highway Patrol. Dude floor it through three blocks of the strip and ended up hitting an SUV in an intersection. Both men were ejected. Officer Magdalena died at the scene and his brother in law (a respected real estate agent in town) succumb to his injuries yesterday.

I was talking with my brother about how we would both have let the truck go no problem. That was before we learned that Cruz was in bed already. I don't know that I could watch that truck pull out with my brother in the back and not jump in myself. One of those questions you can't answer unless you're there.

(For those that don't know my brother and two cousins are California Highway Patrol) it really hits home every time one is lost, even off duty like this.

I certainly hope it wouldn't. I personally wouldn't want my wife and kids to relive it every turn of the channel or newspaper. There is a respect and honor in the way the processionals are carried out though. A proud heritage. Something that I would want my kids to see.

I don't know how many people saw this, but when Sean Misner was brought home every overpass from Arizona to Santa Ynez was manned by a fire apparatus and his procession was saluted. Every single overpass. I would be proud to have that, but certainly not disappointed not to. http://agourahills.patch.com/groups/police-and-fire/p/firemen-salute

Every life is precious. Which is why I do what I do. The way we show our respect for our fallen brethren isn't about other people seeing it. It's about comforting the family and is our way of showing respect.

FWIW Ischiavo I'd mourn your loss if you died. I'd honor you with Homebrew, as I'm sure we all here would.

Anyone have experience with the solar LED security spotlights? Where we'd like to place motion sensor lights running power is going to be a pain. I've seen them before, but don't know how good/bright they are. I was looking at some 60 and 100 led ones.

Reading Ischiavo and Snaps last two posts. I know Ischiavo is playing around a bit but there are some heartfelt questions in there.

Snaps, thank you for the inside story. Riding in the back of a truck only to take the chance of being ejected seems pretty stupid and based on the small info I heard thought. Geez. That was dumb. But of course I didn't really have all the info before drawing a conclusion. I thought I was wiser than that. Guess not

We all die and it's never the right time. But Dying. young with a life of love and family and opportunity ahead... I think I've come to a realization human life is no more sacred in the world than an aunt hill a child kicks off a sidewalk on there walk to school.

Dont get me wrong. In my reality every human loss of life is tragic and always painful. Dying at a ripe old age after a nice life is what we all should be blessed with. Current and ancient history seem to disagree.

All the sudden I'm quite sad.

Sorry for being a kill joy.

FWIW Ischiavo I'd mourn your loss if you died. I'd honor you with Homebrew, as I'm sure we all here would.

Thank you snaps. I drink to your life as well. Now and after you have passed. I drink to all life and homebrewers;)

I miss and fondly remember my youth. My young children remind me of my curiosities and ambitions. I was amazed at the ingenuity a 4 and 6 year old showed in the Spidey photo. Children are simply amazing and to be envied because they have all of those critical life choices ahead of them. I hope mine and your make all the right choices and live the happiest lives through them. Cheers my friend.

I'll drink to all of you as well. In fact, I'll do it tomorrow as well, feel free to skip the dying. I promise to keep drinking to you, night after night, you all just keep not dying.

:mug: Here's to not dying. :mug:

Here's to beer And to my fellows dear

Life for you be all filled with good cheers

Somedays are good and some even better

On the ****ty ones just don't be a bed wetter

(Drunen rhyme). Cheers my friends

I have no experience with those fixtures. But, as an electricican for a few years, LED is the future. Invest in LED my friend...and batteries if you don't have them wired in...

Get me there/home, give me a few brews and I'll get you lit up right. I'm druck now but PM me if you want some sober advice.

You ever plan to move out to Liberalonia? I mean California? If you do ill pay you in all the beer you can drink for an electric beer rig. We'll kidnap LRB out of southern CA. No, we'll crash at LRB's house, build the stand and then take a trip up here to cowtown.

What do you think?

I remember listening to that in the good ol Mercury Cougar station wagon on 8track. The point is valid but the song sucks. Yet, the song is the memory so can it suck without the memory therfore and hencewhence sucking? I think not and officially retract my previous derogotory statement against the forementioned song (even though I did not actually mention a song and only replied to a link to a song). Therefore, if all in presence agree, there was actually no issue, most in presence were under the influence and LabRatBrewer should be granted a goodnight wish.

I lschiavo motion to wish LabRatBrewer goodnight. Will any second the motion?

I have those sort of dreams everynight. A few weeks away from here (alone) would make a new man of me.

Ya, we all need some escape time even if only in our dreams. You're a good dude, Ischiavo and a good dad.

Very happy to know you and call you a friend. We WILL meet someday. (LRB has to be there too). Don't know where yet but we will. It will be build stuff and brew thirty.

I better hit the sack

I just want this on record:

The heat index today was 102. It is now cold (57) outside. My car, house, boat, smoker, garage, grass, street is dripping wet. That is a big temperature swing. So, I'm getting druck and taking the rest of the week off...over and out.

EDIT: Love ya Dan. Come up to Marquette in a few weekends. Bring LRB. If you set sail now, you could make it:)

Is lschiavo good with electric brewing setups? I'm in the earliest stages of putting together a brewery that will include an eHERMS with 4 elements (2 x HLT and BK each, for flexibility between faster heating or brewing back-to-back batches) that will be controlled by a BCS-462 (which will also manage ferm chamber temps), and a fully enclosed plumbing system with 3 pumps, where water can be sourced from the tap, pumped anywhere, and then eventually sent to a fermentor or even down the drain just by controlling the valves... reason being the room is a total mancave for me with around $20K in electronics that I don't want to risk spraying liquid at when unplugging hoses to redirect them. And since a plumbing system like that is pretty complex (looking at around 20 valves), I pretty much have to go with automatic, motor-actuated valve control just so every single one of those 20 valves is always in the correct position to move the liquid around correctly.

But the point is... while I have most of the cash necessary to get started on the electrical stuff now (already have kal-style brew rig, commercial stainless range hood and huge dual-compartment pot-washing sink), now that I'm pretty much at that point, I'm really starting to feel like I'm going to need a lot of (dependable) guidance to pull it off.

Emjay, you going commercial or just extremely love the hobby, or beer for that matter? Either is good in my book.

Is lschiavo good with electric brewing setups?

I am electricity. I feel it. I know it.
It has needs. We must allow it freedom.
But, we must also contain and rule it.
It shall do our deeds. We are master.

Ischiavo, BSEE, DONT F WITH ME, ace.

Do you think that first part would work on a resume?

Emjay, you going commercial or just extremely love the hobby, or beer for that matter? Either is good in my book.

Hobby... for now, anyways. Though I can't deny that I pretty much get wet dreams sbout running a brew/gastropub.

But there are numerous reasons I'm going this route. Most of all, I just want to be able to brew indoors, especially during the Canadian winters. Being able to knock out a highly consistent brew day in relatively little time is important to me too - basically, I want to be able to focus on the higher-level stuff that separates great beer from even greater beer, rather than be bogged down by minutiae.

Also, I'm generally of the opinion that if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing. And I'm a total gadget geek as well, so it's not hard for me to justify the expense.

If i had the expendable cashI I'd trust Ischiavo for a project like yours. Would be very expensive to fly/room and board him though given the distance and time he'd lose at his business.

Perfect world, Ischiavo lived close by, he would br the best for the job. You can probably find someone close to home to build your rig.

Dan, you are so flattering. I am not even sure what the hell you do. Tell me and maybe I'll get you a good job here (cause I know youre a good guy) and then we could hang out. I would love to be helpfull in the design of a commercialish brewery. I have studied a few. It is easy to be overwhelmed but in the end good beer must come. I have always openly offered my help to anyone that has asked. My dream job would be to help design/install a brewery. If I were to be paid for that...whoa...

This is fabulous! Thanks a million! :mug:

We hit the Bel Aire a couple years back. All of the diners we hit were sort of a blur now. In truth it is hard to find bad food when you have so much restaraunt competition around. You either are good or you go out of business. That goes for the carts too.

Oh, if you had asked me just a month ago what my favorite pizza place was, I would have immediately said Sac's on Broadway. Now, an upstart has really put out some spectacular gourmet pies. Milkflower on 33rd st.

It really is a glass half full or half empty argument. Do you mourn what may have been, or celebrate what was? You can always know what you had, but you're only guessing at what could have been.

You asked "is every death not tragic and a loss?" Another way to say it "Is not every life a cause for celebration and a gain?" It is all in how you choose to look at it.

Ischiavo, I call it like I see it. You ROCK man!

Your offer is very much appreciated and would make my day but I'm unfortunately headed westerly to Hawaii. Been doing what the Navy calls a geo-bachelor tour for nearly three years. I use that term loosely since I've been retired from the USN over three years, but in my mind it applies. Time to be with my wife soon, we've been apart way to long and it's put a strain on our relationship. . By soon, January next year at the latest.

As far as what I do for a living? Career in the Navy was in aircraft maintenance. My training was as an Aircraft Electrician. Nickname for us, 'One Wires'. It was a great job and I loved it. There is pretty much nothing on an airplane that does not use electricity. Even the windshields of some have electrical heating. As my career progressed I was pulled out of hands on maintenance and became more of a maintenance coordinator and was authorized to approve jets safe for flight.

Right now Im working for a large company that provides contract support for the military air/land training ranges.

I have to stick close to military aviation bases for jobs. Something unsettling about the move to Hawaii, I think ill be making a career change.

007 has a history of helping collect conch shells...

Haha! I'm sitting here thinking, if I had to change career paths right now in my life, what would I want to do? But, then I realized that I don't have a career path. It's just whatever I feel like doing at the time and hoping someone will pay me for it. I have no idea where my future income will come from, except residual monthly checks from past stuff. That will always trickle in, and probably always be enough for me to survive on. :rockin:

Can you blame him? Each one unique, heavenly really. Smooth and pinkish on the inside. A true gift from the creator and succulently delicious. Garlic is not needed here.

I resemble that thought. Today I was perusing some actual brew threads and felt a bit guilty spending so much time on this one. It was a fleeting moment.
This is the first and last thread I check every night on HBT.

I have little doubt I will die in anonymity. That's what I'd prefer. It seems to me that many of the really newsworthy deaths are either because the circumstances are so unfortunate, or for people who are very famous. It also seems to me that most of the very famous people are horribly unhappy and have little or no privacy.

I am content to make the world around me a little better.

Let me know what you think. I've got a couple spots where I'd like security lights, but I have the same problem. No power out there.

I think you are very smart Dan. Let's try to not be sad.
Take what you can have, and try not to mourn your losses to long.

It would be interesting to know more about your project.
Dan...cmon. Look at his picture. He never leaves his computer.
It seems there was an explanation of the avatar image a couple hundred pages or so back. This should indeed be interesting. :D

Bobbi, I ever tell you you're a great girl. Oh, wait. I don't have to, you're my sister. 😊

JK about not having to tell you. You BobbiLynn bring life to a world that is sometimes dreary. Your personal, your inner strength shines through and leads a path for others to follow.

Cheers Sis!

I'm not nice to electricity I guess. It might be the most contained, controlled unliberated element in my life. So, no freedom for the electrons. I have to disagree here.

Me too. In fact, except for some very very few, we all will. The only way to leave any mark on this world is through your children.

Yep.

Now, for your late night on HBT soundtrack, a little light bouncy music from Lorde. Almost the weekend HBTers.
