So does dish saop and water really help to deter bugs? my 1st year plant is really starting to show alot of bug damage and wanted to go the organic way.. i know lady bugs are one way but i feel that since i only have a hop plant they won't stick around very long. also how much dishshoap should you mix into the water??

It doesn't deter bugs but it will kill them if applied directly to the bug. I've seen mixed success and if there is too much detergent, it can harm the plant. When the Japanese beetles come out, my wife walks around with a pail of soapy water and flicks them in. They die instantly but she has to do it every day.

Here's some info on that: http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/insect/05547.html/
