Higher OG than expected.

So I finished brew #3, Northern Brewer's Dunkelweizen. The instructions have an OG of 1.053 and I ended up with 1.06. So what did I do wrong? What should I expect? Thanks.

I will assume this is an extract kit and partial boil that was topped off with water?

If so, what happened was the water and the wort did not thoroughly mix, which is very difficult to do, and you got an off reading because you measured more of the denser wort than the fully mixed batch.

This is a common issue and should be of no concern. extract kits almost always hit their marks regardless of the readings taken.
