I made my first yeast starter yesterday. I think I did everything right, except that I forgot to sterilize my Wyeast Propagator packet before emptying the contents into the starter wort (I've read in several places top sterilize the packet).

I'm sure the chances of contamination are very slim, after all, the outside of the packet really doesn't come into contact with the yeast. But...since it's not too late to start over, I thought I'd ask for your advice.

Should I pitch it or dump it?

I forgot to sanitize as well and I used scissors to cut it open which was the kitchen scissors and my beer was fine.

yeah i have never sanitized my packet either.. all 5 of them ha ha

Cool! Thanks for all the feedback. I figured if bacteria really wants to get into my beer, there are easier ways than this, but like I said, better to ask the experts now than to ruin a batch.

I'll pitch away....which reminds me, baseball season is almost here!
