Not too many tried and true recipes around for English IPA. Here's my go:

Recipe Specifications
--------------------------
Batch Size: 5.00 gal
Boil Size: 5.72 gal
Estimated OG: 1.061 SG
Estimated Color: 9.6 SRM
Estimated IBU: 51.6 IBU
Brewhouse Efficiency: 75.0 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
10.00 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 93.0 %
0.25 lb Biscuit Malt (23.0 SRM) Grain 2.3 %
0.25 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (40.0 SRM) Grain 2.3 %
0.25 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (120.0 SRM) Grain 2.3 %
1.00 oz Magnum [14.20%] (60 min) Hops 42.8 IBU
0.50 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00%] (15 min) Hops 4.2 IBU
0.50 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00%] (10 min) Hops 3.0 IBU
0.50 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00%] (5 min) Hops 1.7 IBU
0.50 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00%] (0 min) Hops -
1.00 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00%] (Dry Hop)

I plan on mashing this at 158 to give it a nice malt backbone.

Yeast: I have a tube of WLP023: Burton Ale. I plan on splitting the batch between that and another English strain. I haven't figured out which one yet -- there are many!

Any opinions?

Needs about 2 oz more of Cascade amirite? Just kidding, it looks like a great recipe that I myself would brew.

looks good! whats your boil off? 5.71 doesnt seem like it allows enough water for boiloff and cooling shrinkage, or trub loss.

That is the default Beersmith calculation. I don't concern myself too much with volumes; I just aim for the correct gravity while trying to maximize efficiency. High graity beers usually end up with <5 gallons, smaller beers >5 gal.

I do have some Fuggles... That is very tempting. But I kind of want to get to know EKG.

Brewing on Saturday:rockin:

Looks good. I just brewed the English IPA from Brewing Classic Styles on Saturday. It called for 12.5lb MO, .5lb biscuit, .5lb C40, .25lb of C120 mashed at 152F. I'm at work and can't remember the exact hop schedule, but I used 1.5 oz pearle at 60, 1.5oz EKG at 10 and 1.5oz EKG at 0.
