I just broke my hydrometer.
Cleaning up the brewery and wasn't paying attention too much. Turned around and heard the glass shattering on the concrete floor behind me. I had knocked it from its perch in the drying rack.
As I picked up the pieces, I realized that this is the last piece of my original brewing equipment that I still own. Fermentation buckets, brew kettles, airlocks, have all been replaced through the years. Even the plastic cylinder I fill with wort to measure gravity with has been replaced. But this little instrument has remained. Even a few years ago when I went big and purchased a temperature correcting refractometer, I kept the hydrometer around for measuring final gravities.
This little guy has seen every batch I've made for twenty years.
He was a good hydrometer. Always faithful and accurate.
He will be missed.
