Have been lagering an extract plus steeping grains maibock for several weeks at 38 degrees. Over the last few weeks I swear it has gone from a traditional dark amber to a dark German lager color. Am I imagining this? I didnt think it was possible. It is such a long time period I cant be sure of the initial color and my notes didn't mention. Cheers for any insight.

Is it in a carboy or are you pouring beer out of a kegerator?
Most likely a lot of particulate has fallen out. It would have been reflecting the light and making the liquid appear lighter. Now you're just seeing a more clear product and it always looks darker in a carboy

I believe that it is the beer clearing out. Happens to me a lot.
