So basically, I’m trying to put together a recipe to clone Furthermore’s Knot Stock. I’ve done some research, but being somewhat of a novice to creating my own recipes, I’d appreciate your comments, suggestions, etc. I’ve read many older posts on several different forums, but all seem to have subsided...so let’s revamp this BIOTCH!

Furthermore Knot Stock: http://www.furthermorebeer.com/our-beer/knot-stock/
Notes: APA, 5.5%, 65 IBUs, Northern Brewer hops, “fresh cracked” black pepper (boiled & cold infused?), healthy dose of caramel malt.

The Brewing Network podcast featuring Aran Madden (Head Brewer @ Futhermore): http://thebrewingnetwork.com/shows/The-Sunday-Session/The-Sunday-Session-06-01-08-Furthermore-Beer
Aran was somewhat “tight-lipped” when describing the recipe; however, he did give up a few tidbits…
Notes: 40 barrels = 20lbs fresh cracked black pepper into fermenter (1.25oz/5GAL), lots of Caramel 40, and Northern Brewer front & back with Cascade in the middle

So what do I do with ALL of this information (or lack thereof)?

Not knowing much about creating my own recipes, I have started with Jamil Zainasheff’s APA w/Caramel recipe (as suggested in another forum)…basically just modifying it on paper...just trying to get the IBUs & ABV similar to that of the Knot Stock. Am I going about this right…? Does anybody have any tips, tricks, or experience with black pepper beers? Ever tried to clone Knot Stock?

This is my first post, so take it easy on me…CHEERS! :mug:
