I'm going to do a partial mash clone of Founders Red Rye Ale. I researched this forum as well as a couple others, used Hoppville and BrewTarget ( since they are free) to get the numbers I was looking for ( both were exact numbers) and this is what I can up with.

Mash amount: 7 gallons
Boil amount: 6 gallons

I plan on starting with 7 gallons total, 4 gallons to mash between 150-155 and 3 gallons to dunk sparge 165'ish. Hope to have a strong 6 combined gallons and start a full boil with a target batch of 5 gallons racked. Problem is, I'm suppose to shoot for 70 IBU's and have 10 oz of hops and still short.

Amarillo hops are either out of stock or $4 per oz where I could find them. I substituted Falconers Seven Seas Hops which are suppose to be very close and is going to run for the next several years through Hop Union from what I can find out.

Here is my question. Does my hop schedule look right? Is the brewing software right or close or am I going to use way too many hops?

Any opinions are welcome.

It seems to me like the amber DME is out of line, because it has crystal in it and you've got crystal in the recipe already. I'd also use more than one pound of rye. That's alot of carapils too, (8%), and I don't use any in mine. That gives you 20% crystal malt PLUS the crystal in the amber DME- way, way, way too much.

Let me see if I can find a good clone recipe and convert it for comparison.

How about this? Very similar, but more rye malt and it keeps the carapils if you like it:

1 lbs 12.0 oz Rye Malt (Weyermann) (3.0 SRM)
1 lbs Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM)
12.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L
8.0 oz Caramel Malt - 40L
6.0 oz Aromatic Malt
1 pound two-row

5 lbs Light Dry Extract (8.0 SRM) Dry Extract 6 53.0 %

0.75 oz Magnum [11.60 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 7 27.8 IBUs
1.00 oz Amarillo [10.10 %] - Boil 20.0 min Hop 8 19.6 IBUs
1.00 oz Amarillo [10.10 %] - Boil 10.0 min Hop 9 11.7 IBUs
1.00 oz Amarillo [10.10 %] - Boil 0.0 min Hop 10 0.0 IBUs

That's alot of grain to mash- can you mash 5.5 pounds of grain? You had 4 pounds in your original recipe. If you can, use 8.25 quarts of water in the mash (NOT 4 gallons like in your post!) and then you can sparge up to your boil volume.

I think so. I read deathbrewers sticky along with other partial mash threads and looks like I will have to dunk sparge. I have a 15 gallon, 4 gallon and a 3 gallon stock pots. This will be my first partial mash, so far, I have only done steeping and extract brews.
