Mashing with flakes

If you mash with flaked corn (or rye or rice), do you put it through the mill with the rest of the grain or not?
 
I toss the flaked product on top of the mash and then stir it in. I don't think it really matters whether you pass it through the mill or not. *shrug*
 
They just tend to disappear when they hit the hot mash water. No sign of them in the leftover grain, they dissolve totally.
