If you mash with flaked corn (or rye or rice), do you put it through the mill with the rest of the grain or not?

No, it's not necessary. Just mill the rest of your grain and add the flaked adjuncts.

I mill everything besides rice husks.

I toss the flaked product on top of the mash and then stir it in. I don't think it really matters whether you pass it through the mill or not. *shrug*

So it doesn't hurt to mill the flakes, but it doesn't really help either, right?
It might break the flakes up some, but they turn to "mud" in the mash anyway. It's not like they need to be broken up.

They just tend to disappear when they hit the hot mash water. No sign of them in the leftover grain, they dissolve totally.
