I am headed to Pittsburgh, PA in a few weeks.

What are some of the must see beer places in Pittsburgh? I am also driving to Reading, PA and may put the Yuengling brewery on the agenda.

Like beer wise or in general? Visit East End, Full Pint, Penn Brewery. Bars go to Fat Heads and get a Head Hunter. Across the street go to Pipers. Impressive quad beer engines. Primantis for sammys. Pamela's for pancakes. Tons of museums. Casino and stadiums on the north shore.

What is the Head Hunter? My father lives in Greentree so I'll be close to the city.

Are East End and Full Pint separate places? Tell me about Pipers.

Run!

Church brew works and fat heads are fun.

I live near reading, brewing thurs and Friday, you could stop over for a pint. Craft ale house is good, 20 minutes from reading. Few other places.

Head Hunter is my favorite IPA. Its won a ton of awards. You can't get it anywhere except the Pittsburgh and Cleveland locations on tap or in growler. They won't have bottles until next year when they settle in to Troeggs old set up.

They don't do much bottling. They do mostly cheap growlers and have taps out all over town. You can go to the brewery 5 days a week and get a fill.

About 2 years in they are making great stuff.

Scottish pub with a quad beer engine where you can sample up to 3 firkins at a time. Excellent selection of taps and scotch! This is my favorite place in town. Fatheads is up there too 1a and 1b and they are across the street from each other.

This was from my seat at Pipers enjoying a Sly Fox bitter from the firkin. The engines are to the right there.

Lots of stuff in Pittsburgh. There's also stuff up north, more secret, hidden gems. Spragues brewery in an old barn and of course Voodoo in meadville, I've seen voodoo beer as far away as Philly so they've got something going on.

Voodoo is awesome. Never heard of Sprauges?

If you plan on getting tattooed go to In The Blood tattoo shop down on Carson. My buddy Justun (our bands used to tour together) owns the place and does great work. As far as beer goes? I wasn't into craft brew like I am now when I lived out that way. Sorry I can't help on that front.

Fatheads is AMAZING. The head hunter on tap is my favorite IPA. They also have an awesome selection of other beers on tap too. Doublewide is a cool restaurant/bar down the road from Fatheads. They have good food and good selection of beers on tap. Had a Founders Centennial IPA last time there. Big Hop from East End Brewing is a good IPA.

Although I have not been there, I am told that Sharp Edge is a great place particularly if you like Belgian beers.

I'll have to check out Pipers. Looks very cool.

Oh yeah forgot about Sharp Edge. Knew I was forgetting someone but they are probably responsible for me liking good beer in some form or fashion. They are a Belgian bar and they were doing it before it was popular here. They have 53 beers on tap and feature Belgians. They even have their own beer which exclusive to them and brewed in Belgium. They have excellent food as well.

If you're driving as far as Reading and have the time, you might as well check out Philly, too. Victory, Yards, Philly Brewing Co., Sly Fox, and Flying Fish are all in the area. Oh yeah, and there's Troeg's in Harrisburg which would be on your way if you're taking the turnpike.

It's not in Meadville exactly, actually like 20 minutes away. Here's the site:

I spelled it wrong naturally. They have good beer there, I guess you have to go there or get growlers, not sold retail. The atmosphere is just awesome, in a refinished barn, more like a funky place in Vermont or Oregon, instead of NW PA.

Actually did check the website. I am originally from Mercer County I am up that way fairly frequently. I have heard good things about the place in Slippery Rock as well. I am a huge fan of Voodoo tho. I am planning on going to the brewpub that they co-own.
