Hello all,
I am new to entering competitions with my brews. I made an amazing Anderson Valley Summer Solstice clone and am confused on what category I should put it in. I originally thought 21B spice, herb beer. But as I look at the BJCP 2008 guidelines, Summer Solstice is listed as a commercial example of 6A cream ale. My beer meets all of the cream ale guidelines except for the SRM: 2.5 – 5. My SRM is about 11, and perfectly online with the commercial version.

How is this a commercial example when it doesn't adhere to the color guidelines? Should I enter it in 6A? The only thing different about it is that it has vanilla in it.

Here is my recipe:

Type: All Grain Date: 4/12/2012
Batch Size (fermenter): 10.00 gal Brewer: Ben
Boil Size: 13.44 gal
Boil Time: 60 min

Final Bottling Volume: 9.25 gal Est Mash Efficiency 79.2 %

I'm thinking that I should just put it in 6A cream ale and take the hit for the color. Bad idea?

I have to enter this soon guys. I guess that I will just go with 6A cream ale and run with it.
