Calculating IBU via software

I have a question on softwares like mash pro and even beercalculus online.

in the IBU section you have the option of putting
ƒ: Rager, teneth and a few others including average.

What are these?

They are different equations used to estimate IBUs. Tinesth is probably the more accurate of the bunch, or at least it is the newest.
 
Just keep it consistent through out all your batches. Don't switch from formula to formula. None of them will give you the exact actual IBUs but rather a consistent number that corresponds to bitterness in YOUR beer. You will be able to compare subsequent batches to your previous ones and get an idea of what that number means to your beer.
