Can I ferment a 3 or 4 gallon batch in a 6 gallon fermenter without worrying about oxidation, or should I buy a smaller carboy?
 
That'll be ok- there'll be so much co2 off-gassing and bubbling out that you don't have to worry about oxidation, at least for a month or so.
