Greatest Country song EVER!!!

I kind of want to shoot myself for saying that, but figuring Dan ruined this thread by putting Iz and Queen in it (Whom both I like on their own accord, don't get me wrong) Figure I'll put some horrible Non Country Country music in here.

These should tide y'all over for a might...That red sovine tune gets me everytime...

Wow! Thanks unionrdr! Took me awhile to get through the list as my computer had to go into overdrive! I'd never heard the red sovine before and see what you mean. :mug:

Pop also liked listenin to guys like red sovine, lefty frizzel, charlie ryan,& some I still can't remember from the ol' way back machine.
"people are crazy" reminds me of this old feller I used to work with in CEP#1 that played the spoons at the grand ol opery & had the pics to prove it. We sat down next to each other at the bar (the englebrook inn in Brookpark,OH) & did pretty much the same thing as bill did in the song. Just no big $$ out of it. But I did get a friend out of the deal.
By the way,the red 30's looking bright red coupe is charlie's real hot rod lincoln. It's a 30's lincoln body on a '41 frame shortened 2 feet with the '41 flathead V12 & '48 overdrive. All lincoln. He spent record money buildin it years ago,& those exploits are all true. Save for the places.

The last 3rd of that song sounded like a sea chanty or jig. Reminds me of spendin time at my uncle Russ's house down home. He played banjo,& carved/played violins. Pop played guitar,& we'd have music simular to it around the fireplace at night.

Just reminded me of when my sil started likin these new age country studs & kinda looked down on me. I retorted that "I was country before it was cool". Took a lot of flack for it from the kids in city schools.

Hey all. About to post some of my favorite old time classic country songs. You tube vids and lyrics to follow for the first few.

Yes, I'm quoting myself. There have been around 100 or so posts to this thread and I want to say thank you to all who have posted or just stopped by to listen.

Please keep this thread going.

I'm going a bit :off: as seems to be my way. Going to post a song my mom used to sing to me when I was a kid. I'm being narcissistic posting this. Not really a country song, please forgive.

Thank you

Dan

PS. Somebody put the train back on the rails after this post!

a few of my "newer" favorites :mug:

Billy Joe Shaver is the s**t. here's the "true" story of him shooting a man in the face in Lorena Texas in2007. Now THATS country!

and two from Hayes Carll, I didn't post She left me for Jesus.... you'll just have to find that one yourself!
This one heavily features Bonnie Whitmore, a talent all her own.

When I was very much younger, Willy Nelson's song
"On the Road Again" was put to different lryics by my friends a I. We were Sailors, young, dumb and full of, well you know. ;).

On the Road Again was replaced with Out to Sea Again. Making music with my friends was replaced with fixing airplanes with my friends. Most rest of the lyrics fall into place.

Willy Nelson On the Road Again!

"Bridge Over Troubled Water"

Not my favorite song and have to be in the mood for it.

Simon and Garfunkel sang this song but, Willy Nelson in my humble opinion sings it so much better. Then again, I might be biased cause sure do like Willy's music!

I'm not sure who I admire more, John Wayne or Johnny Cash, or for that matter John D, my dad.

I've been looking for this song for the last few nights. Don't know why I didn't find it earlier. This song is one of Johnny Cash's namesakes I do suppose.

Johnny Cash. "The Man in Black"

If I haven't posted this song before, and I probably did

Another song from the great Johnny Cash

The Ballad of Ira Hayes.

"Call him drunken Ira Hayes he won't answer anymore not the whiskey drinking Indian or the MARINE that went to war..."

I'm posting this in respect to a guy here on HBT who's handle is "Airborneguy"

Airborne,
Pretty sure this country music thread is not something you follow. This song isn't about Airborne Rangers but if i could find something closer would post for you.

Keeping in the spirit of what you and many brave men have done for our country. I'm dedicating this to you and all American service men and women.

Found one! A bit old, dig the funky music.
