greeting beerlings......

checking in to share my first BIAB. done yesterday 11/7/12

i decided to a smaller recipe before jumping into using my upgraded equipement. the fact i'm still working on my wort chiller for the 15 gallon pot probably helped with the decision.

so, here it is, a mini BIAB / extract sorta thingy...

4 lbs of pale belgian malt
2 lbs of white wheat
.5 lbs munich malt
.5 lbs oats
3.3 lbs muntons wheat LME

protien rest on the mash for 20 minutes

mashed for 70 mins at 153'
my pot fit into my oven on the low rack and held the temps perfect.
guess the self cleaning ovens are better insulated.
preheated oven to 170' lowest setting, cut off about five minutes before inserting pot. lost some heat while inserting the pot so the 170' figure seemed to work out nice.

mash out at 168 for 20 min

let bag drain and did some squeezing too though probably won't do this when doing the 15 gal mashes.

added 1 oz hallentauter hops five mins into the boil.
boiled for about 65 minutes.

1/2 oz chamomile flower buds dried at last 10 mins
1/2 os of sweet orange zest " " "
.3 oz coriander crushed last 5 minutes.

covered & let seep of 5 minutes after boil.
crashed cooled in carboy full of 2 gallons of ice water setting in ice bath.
pitched safale T-58

i was unable to use a starter do to poor planning ...no DME :(
though i did oxygenate the wort and had fermentation in an reasonable time.

the color right now is way darker than what i had planned for:(

ferment schedule will be two weeks at 68-73' then rack into keg, seal, attach spunge valve and let set for another 2 weeks....

thanx for reading......
