I am planning on building a fully electric HLT in a stainless steel beer keg. My question right now is the selection of keg. I have the opportunity to either pick up a rubber coated one or a pure stainless steel one.

I feel the hassle may be too much when it comes to removing the rubber coating where the holes will go for the top, heater element, ball-valve, and temperature probe.

Perhaps on the other hand the insulation will help maintain a more efficient system? Although, I'm concerned what temperature that rubber will handle before it deteriorates from repeated usage.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks

Why not get both? For the hlt i would use the stainless and use the rubber coated as mlt. That rubber will help maintin mash temps
