So, I had a genius idea that now may not be so genius.

I brew 5l (1 gallon) batches mostly, and it seems a waste to use a whole packet of yeast on them. I recently managed to get hold of a few lab-standard airtight sample tube things, and I decided that instead of wasting half the packet of yeast, I would sanitize the tube, fill it full with dried yeast and put the lid on - therefore I can use half of it and keep the rest in the fridge for another batch.

Will this be ok, or is there too much risk of infection? Thoughts? I'm brewing right now, but I have a spare sachet that I can use if I do't use the one in the tube.

Anyone tried anything similar?
