Local brewery (COTU = Center Of The Universe) is doing a wort share, just got the ingredients list today. I think I know what I want to do, but I am so new of a brewer, I am open to suggestions. I will keep tight lipped about my intentions, but I thought yall might be interested:

Wort Recipe

Cargill Special Pale 57%
Cargill Munich 17%
Dingemans Aromatic 17%
Crisp Dextrin 9%

Expected Pre-Boil Gravity - 1.036

Interesting! I'll have to check this out--they're about 1.5 hours away...

Reviving this thread, COTU is doing this again. I just signed up for 2 buckets of wort today.

They don't release the composition until 10 days before mash day so I'm coming up with some preliminary idea's.

On mash day everyone picks up 6 gallons of wort and takes it home to brew, returning at the end of february for judging and the winning beer is brewed large scale at the brewery!

Here's the bill for this years...

90.6% Special Pale
4.6% Caramel 30
2.5% Crisp Dextrine Malt
2.3% Flaked Oats
2.8 to 1 liquor to grist ratio.
Target Mash Temperature 155° F
15.5° Plato (1.078 SG)

I've never done this before, but wouldn't 15.5 Plato be closer to 1.063 SG? And then maybe 1.078 is expected post boil OG?

This is what I got out of beersmith....I hope I did it right. I shot for a preboil gravity in between since I dont know what is actually right. either way, it looks like they are angling for a strong beer.

Type: All Grain
Batch Size: 5.00 gal
Boil Size: 6.00 gal
Est Color: 7.5 SRM
Estimated pre-boil gravity: 1.072
Ingredients

12 lbs 4.0 oz Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.5 SRM) Grain 1 90.4 %
10.4 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 30L (30.0 SRM) Grain 2 4.8 %
5.6 oz Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 3 2.6 %
4.8 oz Oats, Flaked (1.0 SRM) Grain 4 2.2 %

Est Color: 7.5 SRM

Congrats to John for winning this with an IPA.

What did you all come up with? I wish my heavier one had about another month to mellow, but here's some beer porn from my 2 COTU wort share entries.

I went for a heavier bodied blue moon on one, sweet and bitter orange peels and corriander with a california ale yeast and 25 range for ibu's.

The second I partial mashed the wort once I got it home and went a bit darker and amber. It finished at a 9.2% though and was a bit hot by the deadline.
