I currently get my grain crushed at my brew store 20 minutes away. I am going to have my grain crushed on Thursday when I pick it up but I will not be brewing until this Sunday. Is crushing your grain 3 days before a brew detrimental to the quality. I know it is not ideal and I am planning on buying a grain mill in a few months. Just wanted to know if anyone can tell the difference when they crush their grain this early.

Thanks for the help! :mug:

It will be fine. Crushed grain can last for up to 3 months if well kept.

Agree. I've crushed 4 batches of grain at the brew store before, brewing those batches within a few months of crushing. My brew store is too far away to drive for one batch. I keep it in a cold sealed tupperware container. It isn't ideal, but the beers turn out fine.

I'll pony up for a mill someday soon as I would like the freshest possible beer I can make. After all, i'm a stickler for fresh ground coffee, why not fresh ground grist?
