Yes, it makes a huge difference in the amount of tubing length that is required to drop the pressure enough to get a good pour. The thick walled 3/16" i.d. smooth bore beverage tubing will drop the pressure by approx. 2.7 psi/ft, as opposed the .7 psi/ft pressure drop for the 1/4" i.d. beverage tubing. If you were serving at 12 psi, you would need approx. 20' of 1/4" beverage tubing to do the same job that 6' of 3/16" beverage tubing would do.
