Why cant I just use any kind of ale yeast?

If I have an extract clone of dead guy can I not just any type of ale yeast and and it will still be fine?
It just wouldnt be an exact clone anymore?
I want to use wlp051 or wlp001.

You can do what ever you want....you are the brewer, however every yeast has it's own characteristics and produces different flavor profiles...with 01 (California Ale Yeast) it's very universal and will make great beer with almost everything!
