ok, I dont have any dried malt extract on hand, so I want to do a micro mash with the grains that I'll be using in my recipe.

I plan to do it in a normal kitchen pot, then strain it through a pasta strainer or similar thing, boil it with some hops, cool and pitch the yeast....

What do you guys suggest. I'm worried because I believe temperature of such a small amount of water will drop significantly quicker than normal mash....

what water to grain ratio to use?

any thoughts? thanks

If you are going to use grains for your starter just use the same water to grist ratio. BIAB method should work fine. I am assuming you are using grains outside of the amount you need for your full mash? If not you will need to make your final volume of collected wort smaller to compensate if you want to hit your target SG.

Make sense?
